ZADKINE, THE LIGHT

Synopsis:
After a first stay in Caylus,the sculptor Ossip Zadkine got himself a barn- studio in 1934 in the village named les Arques.
During the summer months, he came here to work and create his main sculptures, escaping the busy life of Montparnasse and his obligations as a teacher –animator in his studio in rue d’Assas.
Through his journal, the themes of his searches and his own memories interfere with each other: his happy childhood in Smolensk and Vitebsk, his stay at la Ruche, his first tries, his doubts, his journeys…
At the Zadkine Museum in Paris, the installation of the permanent collection is on its way.
In Castres through his filmed archives, his pictures and his memories as a former student of the studio, Gaston Louis Marchal talks about Zadkine educational art;
In Les Arques where a museum is dedicated to Zadkine, the artist adopted and dear village, meetings and journeys of contemporary visual artists on a regular basis during the summer helps to keep a real link with creation.
